On Saturday February 3rd, Maria Pekli (under 57 kgs) won a Silver Medal at the Hungarian Open Championships. She lost the Gold Medal fight to the Cuban entry, who defeated the Olympic Gold Medalist I. Fernandez of Spain. Fernandez ended up with the Bronze medal.

The Official Oympic Team has been anounced and the team members from Caulfield are:-

Andrew Collett under 66 kgs

Catherine Arlove under 70 kgs

Maria Pekli under 57 kgs

Results from the Olympics are as follows:

Mens Under 66 kg weight divison: Andrew Collett was defeated in the third round by G. Zhang of China. Andrew had a bye first round, then in the second round came up against J. Wanga of Aruba, which he defeated in a matter of about 20 seconds, with what could only be described as a "Spectacular" Ippon.

Under 57 kg weight division: Maria Pekli was outstanding! She made it all the was through to the Semi finals, only to be defeated by the Gold Meadlist I. Fernandez of Spain. This forced her into the Bronze medal fight, where she won after injuring her leg.

Under 70 kg weight division: Cathy Arlove was defeated in the second round by S. Bacher of the USA, after having a bye in the first round.

Gabor Szabo is the Women's Coach. Susie and Arthur Moorshead are both National Technical Officials and Trudi Walker is a Sports Volunteer making a total of seven people from Caulfield who will be actively involved.

Kit Brown has been selected as a member of the Junior World Championships Team.
